Let's Get $h!t Done! * The lost art of doing things

Image
~This post contains affiliate links~ Let's Get $h!t Done! * The lost art of doing things Let's be honest... it's hard to get $h!t done sometimes . This is a subject I've written about before and one I'll probably write about it again someday. Especially around Christmas break, Thanksgiving, Easter coming up, whatever holiday has you planning, plotting, cooking, cleaning, etc., it's the worst time for actually getting $h!t done.  I don't know what it is about this "downtime" but it sucks the ambition right out of you. And turns children into messy feral gremlins. Cute gremlins, but still messy and feral.  Motivation doesn't come from an Instagram post, a Pinterest pin, or your friend Becky, who pretends to have her $h!t together on Facebook when you know good and well that Becky is full of $h!t because you saw her house last week on a surprise drop in... She only cleaned the corner she took the photo in, then labeled it "Blessed". I...

How to: Handmade journal with an old book cover

Image
~This post contains affiliate links~  Making a journal from an old book cover Making your own journals can be a fun craft. It's not too difficult, but it does require patience.  Your first journal may require a day or two, but after you get the hang of it - you can knock one out in four hours or less! Depending on your design, of course) I'll give you a mini-tutorial on how I put mine together so you have some idea of what you'll be getting into. What you will need: 1. An old book you can cut the pages out of 2. Utility knife 3. Rubber Cement 4. Hot glue gun and glue sticks 5. Strong thread (heavyweight) or dental floss 6. Sewing needle 7. Underlayment flooring paper roll (you can get a large roll at your local hardware store for under $10. This will give you enough paper to make multiple journals) 8. Iron 9. Patience 10. Optional: Paper cutter Getting started: The first thing you want to do is remove the old pages CAREFULLY from your cover. Make sure you don't damage...

Sandhills Journal

Image
Sandhills Journal I am very excited to tell you about my current project in the making! Lately, I have been pushing myself to get after my projects that have been placed on the back-burner for far too long. I live in an area of North Dakota that most people dub as "boring" or "nothing but corn".  Well, my friends, while I realize that Easter Nodak really is covered in corn, it is also covered in amazing people and places. Our little corner of the state is home to many small businesses, incredible people, homesteaders, small-towners, and hidden gems. It's hard for most people to see the beauty in this area, even for those who live here. However, you just need some motivation and know where to look. My plan, with this little venture, is to highlight all of those things and show everyone just how special we really are. The Sheyenne National Grasslands The Sandhills) cover a very large area. Most people know of just one section, but the sections ju...

A Handful of Doodles ~ Old Sketches

Image
Long Lost Sketches: ~This post contains affiliate links~ Art is something I have always loved. Trying to make a living in any art-related field is nearly impossible, however, it sure does make me happy! I grew up doodling on anything and everything I could get my hands on. It was often a problem in school because I'd spend more time drawing on the test than actually answering the questions. I've always loved drawing shops and villages, gardens, and buildings. The stranger the better.  I was pretty thrilled in junior high when they let me design a ceiling tile for the art room. My image of choice? A demon high school girl. It seemed fitting at the time. Some are colorful if I have enough patience to finish the sketch. I also love to write strange fairy tales that have a lot to do with these sketches! I've had four fantasy novels published so far and if you'd like a chance to win one of those novels, go here and follow the instructions! Book Giveaway This one mig...

Momming Isn't Always Easy | Unicorn Moms Unite!

~Momming isn't always easy~ The weekend has come and gone and I have actually accomplished a lot more than I'd hoped! Book number 5 is out in e-book format! I have worked on this book for years. Compiling journal entries, notes, memories of gross and weird things that happen to you as a parent and put them into a novel for you to (hopefully) enjoy. Trying to finish writing on a weekend when your family is home is nearly impossible. Thanks to the ps4 and a day work trip my husband had to take, I made a HUGE dent in this baby. You can find it here:  Momming Isn't Always Easy ~*~ Parenting has its ups and downs. We all hear about the ups...so many ups...bragging and boasting, commending and applauding. But, what about the times a child hands their mother a turd? What about those booger filled, bad-breathed, exhausted, tantrum-filled days that no one likes to talk about? Well - they're all right here. I have compiled all the moments for ...

All right, my friends, I've been absent for a VERY long time! I apologize for that, but there is a great reason: I've been spending time with my family and working my butt off! It is an incredibly rainy day today so I thought I'd take this downtime to update you all on a few things! If you didn't know already, I've finished book 3 in the Lily series, Lily & The Land of Pen and Ink. If you'd like to help a starving writer/artist out, you can pick up your copy here: Lily3 At the moment in my writing adventure, I am working on a more adult fairytale ( Alice in Wonderland based but nothing like) that I'm hoping to have finished and published before Christmas! I was counting on having it done before the snow flies, but I live in North Dakota and the snow flies next week... As for my woodwork, I've been hard at that as well! Within the next few weeks I'll have more and more added to my online shop: Bohemian Heart Handmade , consisting of b...
