Our Little October Camping Trip

Image
Hello October Camping in October is nearly unheard of in North Dakota. We haven't had a nice Halloween month in years, yet this month, the temps were in the 70s. It may have been a tad windy and a little chilly at night, but there's nothing like flannel pajamas and a big bonfire to keep you warm. The leaves are changing quickly as the air continues to crisp. The yellows, reds, and browns are so incredibly beautiful in these latest of fall days we've had in quite some time .  A little wood to chop for the fire and a hot cup of coffee warms the soul on a chilly camping evening. The late morning sun shining through the orange leaves is a gorgeous contrast against the bright blue sky. Flannel pajamas are a must when the temperature drops, as well as a fire to keep the toes nice and toasty warm. Can't forget the opening of pheasant season so we can hunt for our campfire dinner. These feathers are some kind of beautiful and we thank this little bird for fil...

Beginner Photoshop Tutorial: Triplets | Image Editing

Image
~This blog contains affiliate links~ So you want to be a triplet. Maybe even just a twin! If your parents didn't bless you with a natural copy, I'll show you an easy way to clone yourself with Photoshop. This tutorial is for those of you that don't know a whole lot about Photoshop or how to use it. It's a simple set of instructions that can leave you with endless projects. (It's addicting. Trust me.) Meet Mary, Meg, and Mina. Mary, Meg, and Mina were created for the sole purpose of entertainment. They were born out of boredom and created through a photo-editing program to give me two extra sisters that I have dubbed my alter-egos. I have so many plans for these ladies. If you're looking to do the same or something similar, follow along and I'll show you the easiest way I know-how. What you will need: A digital camera of any breed A sturdy enough tripod Adobe Photoshop Two or three outfits Patience (o...

Fergus Falls Kirkbride Lunatic Asylum, State Hospital

Image
Ah, the Kirkbride. What's more beautiful than a 650,000 square foot asylum built like a castle? Perhaps a full functioning castle...but without access to one of those - I'll settle for the Kirkbride. Fergus Falls North Dakota is home to one of the Kirkbride asylums. Although this beauty is no longer in use on the inside, the Fergus Falls community has transformed its grounds into the Kirkbride park. It has been closed to the public for two years now, canceling tours after 2015, yet the outer workings of this masterpiece are still reason for a visit. I may not have had the privilege to walk the halls with my camera in tow, but I managed to snap 296 photos elsewhere...don't worry, I'm only sharing a handful. Enjoy!

The Triplets of McLeod, Photoshop fun

Image
The other morning, my one friend wasn't home for our "mom mornings". So, I had to find something to do until my daughter got out of pre-school. She goes for 2.5 hours, two days a week. Usually, I spend those hours sipping coffee with a friend of mine. The morning she wasn't home, I returned to mine. Shortly after I got there I realized how silent and sort of lonely it was. Living on a farm in the middle of nowhere is very quiet when you're alone. So I took matters into my own weird hands and created the Triplets of Seelyeville to keep me company. These ladies are the bane of my existence. Little did I know that they would take over my life and they always seem to be fighting. This particular morning, for example, they got into a drawn-out argument on the front porch about how they couldn't all three wear the same damn outfit. Mary (me - the brunette), Meg (the redhead), and Mina (the one with the very bad blonde dye job) began to throw coffee cups...

Triplets of McLeod ~ Mary, Meg, & Mina

Image
Taming wild triplets isn't easy.  Sometimes you need to cage up the problems. Sometimes the problems need to be locked away.  Other times you need to imprison your frustrations.  Perhaps, even take control of the situation by holding the aggravations captive. This is one of my FIRST triplet attempts in Photoshop. Not my best work, but I've gotten much better over the years! It's a bit of a process, but it can be so much fun. If you'd like to learn how to duplicate or even triple yourself,  you can check out the tutorial here:  Photoshop Tutorial

Photo Session With the Kiddos! Photoshop fun!

Image
Photoshoot day! I had SO much fun taking photos of my wee ones the other day! These kids surprised me being able to hold still long enough to snap these awesome and super fun shots! Yes, there are more of my daughter than there are of my son, but that's because he was having more fun posing her and helping me! Such a sweet boy I have. I even managed to get a good one (which is rare) of myself! What's the point of owning a big fancy camera if you don't use it to do awesomeness like this?? I know they may not be perfect to some, but they are perfect to me!! Please do not steal my photos, but feel free to share and give credit where credit is due! She told me it was a "sad" book so she held her heart for the picture! She wanted to be sleeping beauty! Levitating the kiddos! Levitation in color! Sleeping Beauty in color! Me, myself, and I! I have yet to put out the levitation tutorial just yet, but the basics of t...
