Our Little October Camping Trip

Hello October

Camping in October is nearly unheard of in North Dakota. We haven't had a nice Halloween month in years, yet this month, the temps were in the 70s. It may have been a tad windy and a little chilly at night, but there's nothing like flannel pajamas and a big bonfire to keep you warm.

The leaves are changing quickly as the air continues to crisp. The yellows, reds, and browns are so incredibly beautiful in these latest of fall days we've had in quite some time

A little wood to chop for the fire and a hot cup of coffee warms the soul on a chilly camping evening.

The late morning sun shining through the orange leaves is a gorgeous contrast against the bright blue sky.

Flannel pajamas are a must when the temperature drops, as well as a fire to keep the toes nice and toasty warm.

Can't forget the opening of pheasant season so we can hunt for our campfire dinner. These feathers are some kind of beautiful and we thank this little bird for filling our bellies.

A little cold weather fishing didn't bring me any fish to cook, but it was peaceful and the day was beautiful. However, the boys got tired of fishing four minutes in, which left me with some mom-time to just listen and enjoy my surroundings in peace and quiet.

Hiking trails in the fall are more beautiful than ever. Each golden leaf, the beautiful brown tones, and the cool afternoon air made for a magical walk back to the campsite.

I do hope that we get to do this again year after year.
