DIY Coffee Oil Hair Mask - Natural Products

DIY coffee oil hair mask - make your own natural products

And I'm back with another home spa day!

This morning I decided it was time to test out my homemade coffee oil. And what better place to slather it on? The head!

Caffeine is said to stimulate hair growth and nourish the hair. I thought, "Why not give it a go?"

My stress levels have been through the roof of the Empire State Building lately and that has taken quite a toll on my hair. The hair fall in the past couple of months was astonishing.

And of course, when the hair falls - the stress rises even higher.

The other day I made up a small batch (about 1 cup) of coffee oil. I originally made it for under-eye circles, but I will get to that later. It smelled SO amazing that the thought of putting it on my hair for me to smell throughout the day seemed like a fantastic idea. Can you tell I'm a coffee fanatic?

Making your own coffee infused oil (heat method):

I am far too impatient to wait three weeks for it to infuse, so I opted for the heated version.

*Get the double boiler ready - if you don't have one just put a pot inside a bigger pot and pour some water into the bottom pot. This will prevent your oils from burning.

  1. In the double boiler pour a cup of organic extra virgin olive oil.
  2. Next, take a half cup of coffee grounds or beans and pour it into your oil. Stir it up really good! If you'd like some added benefits, throw in a few drops of lavender oil for its antimicrobial purposes. Or a tea tree oil to get an extra clean on your scalp.
  3. Get the water boiling in your bottom pot and reduce heat so it remains to simmer.
  4. Now find something to do for 30 minutes! Don't forget to come back and stir from time to time. AND check your water. If it is boiling too rapidly, turn it down. You don't want it to burn
  5. Next up, gather a jar and a coffee filter. After your pot of oil and grounds has cooled -
Put your jar on a cookie sheet (for spills). Fasten your filter, cheesecloth, or what I used - half a tea leaf ball, to strain out those grounds.
  6. POUR SLOWLY! Trust me on this. The mixture will be thin, but thick enough to overflow your filter if you get ahead of yourself.
Rub it in:

Once you've filled your jar, seal it up! If it's cool enough to use at this point, go ahead and slather it on. If not - don't burn yourself! It's worth it to wait a little while until you know for sure it's at a safe temperature.

Once you get your hair covered in this magical-scented coffee oil, gently massage it into your scalp.

You can leave it on for an hour or even two! It will be thin, however, so make sure you drape an old towel around your shoulders.

You will smell like the inside of Starbucks!

After your time is up, hop in the shower and wash it out. It may take two shampoo-ings depending on how much you poured on your head. Condition your hair and finish singing in the shower!

When you're all done, and you comb through your hair (always use a wide-toothed comb when your hair is wet) add a little bit of your coffee oil to the ENDS of your hair! If you don't have any left, use some coconut oil instead.

That's it! Enjoy your silky smooth hair! (And the weird looks you get from your family after you've cooked up your coffee and dumped it on your head)

Have a great day, good luck, and let me know how it worked for you!

***Don't forget - You can use some of that coffee oil to brighten those dark circles under your eyes! Give it a try!
