De-Stress Yourself And Be Happy Dammit! 10 ways to lighten your spirit:

Everyone gets stressed out. Everyone has bad days. Everyone has their moments of wanting to just say f*ck it and give up.

We all handle things differently. There are some of us out there (happy unicorns) that can shrug off their bad days and finish it out with a smile. And there are some of us (pissy piglets) that just want to break shit and roundhouse kick someone in the face and still feel crappy for the rest of the day.

Now, you happy unicorns out there - you go do your unicorn thing and keep smiling. Good for you.

For us pissy piglets that need a little help getting that smile back, here are a few ways to go about it:

  1. Relax. (duh) Take a deep breath. Take seventeen deep breaths. And when you start to get a bit lightheaded from all those deep breaths, sit down and relax for 10 minutes. Close your eyes and find your happy place. Calm your shaky nerves and picture yourself on a beach with the sun shining in your face with a large margarita in one hand and a super hot dude/lady to your left serving you oreos.
  2. Read a book. Pick up a funny one. Find something to read that makes you laugh. Bury your head in that book and don't come back out until your damn good and ready. It will take your mind off of what was stressing you and will also help you with #1. (not peeing...I mean relaxing)
  3. Write down your frustrations. Pick up a note book and write until you can write no more. When you've gotten it all out, go through it. You'll realize how crazy you were feeling about something that wasn't all that crazy in the first place. You'll realize how you've been overreacting and how things could be SO much worse.
~ After you've realized all of this, write down what makes you happy and all of the good things you have going for you right now. Because, those things are what matter in life.
  4. Run your feet under some hot water. This one is more physical than mental and also my favorite. Stick your feet in the tub, turn the hot water on and let it run over them. Don't burn yourself, be smart about it, but just take in all that warmth. You can also close your eyes and go back to those happy margarita oreos from number one while you're at it.
  5. Clean. Seriously? What the hell kind of suggestion is that?? No really. I'm not saying to go scrubbing your nasty toilet with a toothbrush, but rather find something that needs to be organized. Go through a box in the back of your closet. Organize your pictures. Make your bed. Not only will it take your mind off of the situations at hand, but you'll feel better about making yourself useful in the process.
  6. Bake something sweet. Not only is baking a good stress reliever, but you also get to eat the shit out of everything you've baked and you don't even have to share! Make some brownies, a chocolate cake, something ooey gooey and delicious and then devour it.
  7. Create something. Sit down with a pad of paper and draw a picture. Pick up a coloring book and make a dinosaur purple. Paint something, bead a necklace, glue some sparkly crap together and dub it a statue. Just make something pretty.
  8. Go outside! This one helps more if it's warm out, of course, but even in the winter time being stuck indoors can be totally depressing. Lay out in the sun, get a tan, pull some weeds, go for a walk/jog, take some pictures of nature. If it's winter time - dress warm and walk to the mailbox. Throw some snowballs. Make a snowman or a snow angel. Build yourself an snow fort. Whatever your little heart desires.
  9. Yell. I know that sounds kind of counter productive, but yelling does help. Don't yell at someone, yell at nothing. Put some Van Damme into it. Growl a little. Maybe throw in a pissed off yodel. You will feel really dumb in a short period of time. That dumbness will help you realize that whatever you're stressed about really wasn't worth the holler.
  10. Go for a drive. I like this one a lot. Crank up some tunes, drive out into the country, cruise down some gravel roads, sing your little heart out, and enjoy yourself. Keep driving until you either run out of gas or run out of steam. (Don't call me if you run out of gas...)
There are SO many more I could add to this list, but these 10 little things are a good start. Don't let stress over come you. Don't let it run your life. DO take control of your well being. DO try to make an effort to be happy. DO something.

Doing nothing will only make it worse.
