Honey, Turmeric Face Mask for Acne, Wrinkles, and Dark Spots
It's a pretty gloomy day out today in Nowhere, ND - not that I mind...I rather enjoy the ambiance of a gloomy day - so I'll be spending most of my time indoors working on my need to finish a pile of sewing projects.
I have a very beautiful vintage lace wedding dress that I have to finish corseting, a pretty flower quilted maxi skirt to work on, and many many pairs of tiny pants that I need to make a little bit less tiny.
I figure that since I'll be inside all day that it's a good time to throw on a homemade face mask as well. Not the sparkly masquerade kind of mask, but an acne cleansing, wrinkle-smoothing, skin glowing, and moisturizing mask.
One of my favorite blends is the honey turmeric mask. This is my go-to mixture that leaves my skin glowing, smooth, and fresh. Typically I apply it once or twice a week to keep my skin healthy. Lately, I've been so busy running that I've missed the last few applications which makes me super excited for today!
Honey, Turmeric Face Mask:
This is the recipe I use (this recipe is large enough for at least two applications):
- 2T Flour (thickening agent. Can also be substituted with baking soda: but I wouldn't recommend it on people with sensitive skin, it can be very abrasive. Your best bet is to stick with the flour)
- 1tsp Turmeric (good for acne, dark spots, blackheads, hyperpigmentation, eczema, wrinkles, cleanser, and exfoliant)
- 3T Milk or Yogurt (milk lightens dark eye circles and dark spots on the skin, yogurt refines pores, stimulates collagen and exfoliates skin)
- 1tsp 100% Raw Organic Honey (Manuka honey - with a UMF of at least 10) is the most beneficial to the skin, healing properties, astringent, moisturizer, wrinkle reducer, natural anti-bacterial containing hydrogen peroxide, treats minor wounds and burns. IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO BEES: my condolences, that sucks, and omit this ingredient)
- 1tsp Fresh Lemon Juice (skin toner for dark spots and scars, natural astringent)
- 1tsp 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil (great makeup remover, anti-inflammatory, good for eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis)
- Optional: A pinch of nutmeg and/or cinnamon. (both contain natural healing properties)
**Always test any new mixture on an area of
your skin that can be hidden to test for allergic reactions.
your skin that can be hidden to test for allergic reactions.
Just because the ingredients are all-natural,
that doesn't mean you are automatically
immune to an allergy you may not know you have.
**Mix all ingredients into a sealable jar or Tupperware (you will have leftovers that can be kept in the fridge). If you'd prefer your face mask a bit warm for extra comfort, place the mix in the microwave and set the timer for 10 seconds. You do NOT want to exceed 10 seconds. If you heat for longer, the flour will harden and you could potentially burn yourself.
**Take an old makeup brush and begin applying all over your face avoiding your eyes, nostrils, and mouth. Don't worry about that bright yellow tint, this is the color that will give your skin that beautiful glowing look. If you apply with your fingers, wear gloves OR simply wash with soap afterward. Like I said, it tints the skin a bit and yellow fingers aren't all that pretty...
You don't need to pile it on, just apply a nice even thin layer and relax!
**Leave the mixture on your face for 20 minutes. When the mask has dried (or mostly dried, whichever you'd prefer) wet a washcloth with just warm water and wipe it off! It may take 5 minutes to get it all wiped free, but you'll love the look of your skin underneath!
Don't forget to refrigerate your leftovers! This mask can be used as often as you'd like, but I'd recommend starting out with once or twice a week and go from there.
Give it a whirl and let me know how it went for you!
